607Mr. Weymouth was born with a withered leg, which he had removed. For 40 years he was prominent in business circles in Lock Haven, engaged in the lumber business. After graduation at Eastman Business College at Poughkeepsie, NY he was bookkeeper for S. M. Bickford & Co. who operated a sawmill at Dunnstown. Next worked for Best & Hopkins which later became Hopkins, Best & Weymouth. When Best retired it changed to Hopkins, Weymouth & Byers. Byers retired and the firm was Hopkins & Weymouth. After the mill at Dunnstown was abandoned when lumber was sawed out, Hopkins & Weymouth built a saw mill at Clarence, near Snow Shoe. Samuel was in the business with him.
Chairman of county Rept. Committee and delegate to state conventions. On board of managers of Lock Haven Hospital; On board of trustees of Normal School. In 1903 helped organize Falls Creek Coal Co., of which he was elected President; Member of Olympic Council. Resident of Lock Haven 1864 until his death. He had a genial personality, and no man was held in greater esteem in Clinton Co. |
