The spelling of the family name appears as "Colburn" or "Coburn", varying from one generation to another. Although Jonathan used the Coburn spelling, his son,Ephraim, reverted to the original spelling, i.e. Colburn.
Jonathan was a member of Capt. John Joslin's company of Minutemen at Cambridge on April 19, 1775, and later served in the same regiment under the command of Capt. Wilder. He also fought in Capt. Samuel Stickney's company in the regiment of Abijah Stearn, which marched into the battle of Saratoga. |
