1779Sarah Butler was of Frenchman's Bay.
1780It seems probable that the statement that Sarah Butler is the daughter of Moses and Sarah (Goodwin) Butler is incorrect. Dr. Butler thinks that his mother, Sarah Goodwin, was Sarah, born in 1722, the daughter of Daniel Goodwin. and not the daughter of Adam, but a bible entry gives Sarah Goodwin's birth at 1729. A family tradition says that Moses Butler and his wife removed to Frenchman's Bay in 1764, they left this young daughter with her grandfather, Samuel Goodwin and that she afterwards, in 1778, became the second wife of her half-uncle, Amaziah Goodwin. This tradition is borne out by the records. |
