| Notes for Fennel ROSS |
1739Fennel evidently lived on land owned by Captain John Whipple, Sr., who mentioned in his will dated 26 September 1683 "land in ye tenure of Fennell Ross.
1740Of the three Ross families, that of Fennel Ross has been the most difficult to follow after his death. The debts against his estate slightly exceeded the assets, leaving nothing to be distributed. This probably explains the lack of any guardianship for children whose ages ranged from seven to nineteen. Due to the similarity of the given names with the children of John Ross and Killicress Ross, it is often mere speculation to try to identify a name in a court record. Although there is no birth record for her, the daughter Lydia is included here because her marriage occurred in Haverhill where this family was the only Ross family living at the time, and because on 30 December 1730, when Lydia Ford of Haverhill, widow, sold "a small log house" in Haverhill, Mary "Rose" (evidently her sister) joined in the deed.1741 |
