David R. Harper dies without warning

D.R. Harper who had been quite ill with a hard cold but who was considered out of danger, died suddenly Monday morning. His son, A.D. Harper, had gone in to see him, and he raised up in bed and told him he was feelnig better; he then had a very hard coughing spell and suddenly expired.

David R. Harper was born at St. Armands, Bedford Co., Canada, Aug 17, 1821, moving to Highgate, VT. at the age of 21, residing there until the fall of 1852 when he came west and has since made his home in Rockton, dying Jan 26, 1903 at the ripe old age of 81 years 5 months and 9 days. Mr. Harper was married about 33 years ago to Mrs. Rebecca Osgood and to them was born two sons, Thomas R. and Albert D., who with their mother are left to mourn. Of Mr. Harper's immediate family of two brothers and five sisters but two sisters, Mrs. Margaret Shepard and Miss Abigail E. Harper remain. The deceased was of a quiet retiring nature never taking part in public affairs as much as some, but he was a kind friend and neighbor and a loving husband and father, and will be greatly missed by those in his immediate circle of friends.

The funeral was held at his late home Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock, the services being conducted by Rev., O.J. Simmons."
