Notes for John WOODMAN
John Woodman enlisted in the Continental Army 19 Jun, 1777. He attained the Rank of Sargent Major serving in Capt John Elden's Company, Capt Daniel Lane's Company and others. He was promoted commissary 10 Jul, 1778. He is listed in the DAR Patriot Index.
He built his home at Pleasant Point in Buxton, Maine shortly after his discharge in 1779. Although he had very little formal education the town records show that he wrote most, if not all, of the deeds, wills, contracts, and other legal documents of that era.
He held many public offices, several of them simultaneously. He held positions as Judge, Legislative Representative, Senator, Presidential Elector, as well as several minor offices. In his later years he and his second wife lived with her son John Elden near Saco, Maine.
