Notes for Fred Allen (Spouse 1)
Cause of death: Concussion. He was kicked off his feet by a draft horse he used for logging and struck his head. Charlene Strout had previously expressed concern that the horse "had a mean look in its eye" and she didn't trust it.
Epitaph for Fred A. Strout, written by Fred A. Strout: Here lies the body of Fred A. Strout, With a good-sized pimple on the end of his snout. He lost his money and he lost his hair, But he always knew that the pimple was there. When you pass this spot just drop a rose, For the son of a gun with the wart on his nose! Unfortunately, family funds were not available for a
gravestone large enough to contain this verse.
In Maynard Strout's youth, the Fred Strout family moved to Bangor, and lived at 136 Fruit street, close to the Greene family. This was the time during which Fred ran the bicycle shop.
Charlene Strout Custer remembers going to visit this farm of her grandparents when she was a young child. Grammy Strout kept chickens and they would peck at Charlene and frighten her. The house was lit with oil lamps, since there was no electricity out in the country, yet. Maynard Strout rigged up automobile batteries to run his mother's radio.
