Richard came to America in 1630 and was one of the original settlers of Watertown. He was probably a cousin of Thomas of Portsmouth, Rhode Island. More than likely he was a cooper since he was paid one shilling sixpence in 1651 for "hooping the powder". Richard became a proprietor of Watertown in 1637.
