"He became totally blind and never saw his youngest three children. His hearing became more acute, so that he recognized his entire family by their voice and footsteps. After his blindness he once climbed a large bee tree and harvested the honey. After being told of the danger, he felled the tree. He was known to have sounded his way several times through the forest for miles" - Harry H. Carey (Grandson).
