| 1041Joseph Jewett, with his wife Mary, and one or two children, came to America with his older brother, Maximilian, in the ship John in the fall of 1638, and settled in Rowley, Mass., in 1639. He was made freeman May 22, 1639. He became a large land owner and one of the leading men of the town, was representative to the General Court in 1651, 1652, 1653, 1654, and 1660, and was one of the two stewards for each of these sessions. |
