John's will, made October 21, 1726, was proved September 14, 1737. To his wife Mary Hatch he left his entire estate during her widowhood, but if she married again she was to have only the improvement of one-third of the estate and the property which came to her from her own family, which she was to dispose of to her grandchildren. To his grandson Benjamin Hatch, one-half of the gristmill in Scituate, the cedar swamp in Hanover, the homestead in Marshfield, a feather-bed and all tools of husbandry, provided he pay to his sisters Mary and Grace Hatch £100 apiece from the estate that came to him from his father. To his granddaughters Mary and Grace Hatch, the land in Marshfield bought from Job Randall after the death of his wife, and they were to dwell in his house until they married. His grandson Benjamin Hatch was to live with his grandmother until he reached the age of twenty-one. Executrix: wife Mary. Witnesses: Thomas Foster, Arthur Howland, Abigail Howland.
