| Judy Wilkerson has their marriage aft 3 Apr 1789 in Brunswick, Maine. 277Mercy was the grandaughter of Bill Austin the famous Indian scout. Bill's son William was carried into captivity by the Indians while a small boy. He remained with them until he became a man and married a sister of the celebrated Chief Tecumseh. After his marriage he left the tribe and settled in Bath, ME where his daughter Mercy was born. Records from Gil Tatro CT 1995 - info from Mrs. George Powers, whose husband is desc. of Wm. Labree and Mary Hinckley. "The Labree family had a pure French background. Peter Labree came from France to settle in Woolwich in 1759. His son James mar. Mercy Austin, gdau. of William Austin and an Indian Princess...The Indian side of the family was introduced by William Austin, who was of British origin. Copied from the Portland Press Herald: 'William Austin, a famous scout, mar. the Indian Pricess, sister of Tecumseh and dau. of Wamsutta. Wamsutta was a brother of King Philip and son of Massosoit (Cochrane records). William Austin had sons Benoni and John Austin. Two years later he enlisted in the Continental Army and served in the ranks until 1779. 277James and Mercy (Austin) Labree's first child was born Jun 18, 1783 (Mary).
